Snehan — Empowering the Deprived
Chris Crafts is proud to spotlight Snehan, a Pondicherry-based charitable trust working right in our own Lawspet community — caring for the homeless elderly and building livelihoods through skills like tailoring and eco-friendly bag-making.
A Trust Rooted in Lawspet, Pondicherry
Snehan (operating under Goodwill Mission Trust) is a heartfelt initiative dedicated to transforming the lives of homeless, disabled, elderly, and ailing individuals surviving on the streets of Pondicherry without basic needs or employment.
Mission: To restore the dignity of every neglected homeless individual — through loving care for the elderly ill, skill-building that empowers the able, and steadfast advocacy that ensures no one is left behind.
Vision: A compassionate society where elderly homeless are embraced with love, valued for their humanity, and live with dignity as equal members of the community.
Snehan was founded by Anumuthu, known to the community as "Joshi," whose own experience of hardship inspired the work Snehan does today.
Snehan's Programs
Snehan Home
Dignified care, medical support, and healing for abandoned elderly and sick individuals.
Snehan Outreach
Tea, bread, and lunch packs distributed to street-dwelling elderly and sick people, four days a week.
Snehan Tailoring
Equips unemployed and disabled men and women with tailoring skills — including eco-friendly cotton bag-making — for financial independence.
Earn With Dignity
Places unemployed homeless adults into real employment — tea stalls, hotels, shops — building sustainable livelihoods.
Skills That Sound Familiar
Snehan Tailoring trains participants in six-month batches, teaching tailoring techniques and eco-friendly cotton bag production — the very same craft that Chris Crafts' own artisans practice, in the same Lawspet community.
Bags made through the program are sold by the beneficiaries themselves, turning a learned skill into a real, sustainable income and "a renewed sense of worth."
